Right in the centre of Monaghan, the Redmond family’s long-established bar and restaurant is a gem. It's a classic of its type, and offers consistently generous and tasty local food - and a great range of craft drinks from Monaghan and surrounding counties.
Following a fire on November 2015, the premises was re-built and Andy's re-opened the following year, with the handsome Victorian-style bar restored to its former glory and a new-look restuarant - a favourite destination for weekend dinners, special occasions and family get togethers.
Chef Ciaran Redmond was ahead of his time when he and his wife Maureen started out here, in 1983, with a focus on local food and provenance. Ciaran was an early supporter of Euro-Toques (www.euro-toques.ie) and his son Sean, also a member, now proudly carries the cheffing baton at this consistent and very friendly establishment.
Locally produced pork and chicken dishes always feature, and steaks are a particular speciality - very unusually, their top quality beef is dry-aged in-house in their dedicated ageing room for up to 40 days, and that is the secret of its stellar reputation.
Sean's brother Kevin is the manager, and a big craft drinks enthusiast - he is rightly proud of the range offered and is contstantly on the look out for new craft beers, ciders and spirits, especially if produced in Monaghan and its neighbouring counties.
Great food, great service - and great value, too.
