Hazelwood Lodge Ballyvaughan Co Clare

Hazelwood Lodge Ballyvaughan Co Clare

Fresh flowers and home grown garden produce create a lush contrast to the overall green-greyness of the surrounding Burren, suggesting an oasis in a wilderness - which is just what Victor and Geraldine McSweeney's immaculately maintained B&B on the road to Aillwee Cave and Birds of Prey provides. A big welcome and genuine hospitality are among its many USPs and another is that their daughter, Lesley, is a chef who not only grows a lot of the ingredients that are used for the breakfasts which are a point of pride (and also private catering for groups), but also runs Hazelwood Bakery, which specialises in organic sourdough breads. Above all, there’s a great sense of generosity about the place, from the spacious rooms to Victor’s way with guests - you can be sure of getting all the local lowdown from him as you start off after breakfast to explore the area. And self catering is also available, at the charming Hazelwood Cottage.
