The Dunloe (formerly Hotel Dunloe Castle)

The Dunloe is named after its own ruined castle and is one of three hotels in common ownership in the area - the others are the aptly-named Europe Hotel & Resort at Fossa, and ultra romantic Ard na Sidhe Country House, overlooking Caragh Lake, either of which would also be worth considering as a wedding or honeymoon venue.



The Dunloe is mainly modern but it has interesting features including a fine equestrian centre, private fishing and 64 acres of parkland with 20 acres of sub-tropical gardens which are renowned for their unique botanical collection and contain many rare plants - a very pleasant place for a stroll after dinner.



But this wedding venues most romantic feature is the view, straight up towards the Gap of Dunloe - there are many wonderfully located hotels in the area, but none with this view. There are three churches close by - St Marys Cathedral in Killarney town, Beaufort Church, Prince of Peace in Fossa - and wedding blessings are possible at the hotel.



It was built on a grand scale, and there is sense of both space and intimacy which is very relaxing - the Upper Lounge is perfect for a cocktail reception and has an open air terrace with spectacular views, while the main reception is held in the Park Restaurant, with a dedicated bar and dance floor.



Menus are not over-priced for a hotel of this calibre but, if you decide to order canapes, bear in mind that they incur an additional charge and must be ordered for 80% of guests; however, on the plus side, the service charge is included in quoted prices which is not often the case.



There is so much to do in this beautiful area that many guests will wish to stay for a few days - programmes can be arranged by the hotel, if required.
