Step House Hotel
Georgina Campbell
Now in the Coady family for 5 generations, this charming hotel has recently been specifically re-designed to host the most intimate and personal weddings. Although only just over an hour from Dublin, the heritage village of Borris is a magical other-worldly place and was once home to the ancient High Kings of Leinster.
And this pretty village enjoys a beautiful setting, with Mount Leinster and the Blacktstairs Mountains creating an impressive backdrop in the distance and the lovely River Barrow only a short walk away.
For the ceremony, there are numerous old country churches to choose from nearby, and wedding blessings can also be held in the Step House Hotel's beautiful walled garden (perfect for photographs) or on the verandah of the Residents’ Bar.
This wedding venue has a very welcoming and homely atmosphere. There are two wedding co-ordinators who can answer virtually any question, and arrange music (church, reception, band), special transport, photographers, even wedding insurance - they will be there on the day to greet you, and set everyone at ease. A host of little touches will make the day extra special.
The house is set up to provide a soft romantic setting for the wedding, with lots of candles and garden flower arrangements provided at no extra charge, and menus are rolled up into a scroll and tied with ribbon.
But the main focus at the Step House is on the food and service: a magnificent 5-course sit-down dinner is based on local and home-grown produce, with hot dishes cooked to order, fish or vegetarian options provided, and allergies taken into account.
The wedding cake can be arranged and a square silver plinth stand and cake knife are provided.
The accommodation is charming and rooms vary, as is the way with old properties, but they are all very comfortable and include a highly romantic Penthouse Suite. However this is no ordinary suite as the Penthouse is the only room on the top floor.
An arched glass wall in the living room gives a panoramic view of Mount Leinster and the Blackstairs Mountains. East facing, the morning sun rises over Mount Leinster and fills the Penthouse and many other rooms with morning sun.
There is also an exceptional range of activities available – and, as the area is so beautiful, the wise guest will take a break here after the wedding.
While the Banqueting Suite can cater for a maximum of 180 guests, more intimate gatherings of up to 60 people can be held in Rubens Restaurant. The atmospheric Residents’ Bar is a fine room with large open fires, and it has a good atmosphere for those smaller groups.
All of this a mere hour from Dublin. All you have to do is pick your date and, for a one off all inclusive fee, The Step House will arrange and supply:
• Specialist Wedding Coordinator
• Exclusive and complimentary use of the Step House Gardens, its Residents’ Bar and Penthouse Suite for Receptions, Civil Ceremonies and Blessings.
• Tea & Coffee on arrival
• Gorgeous Canapés
• Champagne or Pimm's Cocktails
• Four-course Chef’s choice dinner menu
• Table flowers co-ordinated to your colour scheme
• Wines - up to half a bottle per head.
• Individual menus hand scrolled and tied with ribbon
• Table plan decorated and displayed for guests.
• Guest and Table Names created and placed as per your seating plan.
• Built-in sound system for background music and entrance songs.
