Hanora's Cottage
Georgina Campbell
The Wall family’s gloriously remote country guesthouse is now a substantial building, yet they still actively nurture the spirit of the ancestral home around which Hanora’s is built. This a very special place, in a wonderfully unspoilt and romantic location - and, with a beautiful old church right next door, it makes a perfect venue for small weddings of up to 40 adult guests.
Weddings are possible between Monday and Thursday only, and there is no formula, so special requirements such as car hire, hairdressing and beautician, a musical welcome (with red carpet, if required) can all be arranged and Mary Wall, her son Eoin and his wife Judith (who are both chefs), will meet the bride and groom and do their best to accommodate the couple’s special wishes, and select a tailored menu which can have four choices on each course without any extra charge. (As choices are individually selected, Hanora’s don’t state wedding menu prices but it may be helpful to know that their usual dinner menu in the restaurant would be around €40-50.)
Enthusiastic supporters of small suppliers, Eoin and Judith use local produce whenever possible: beautifully fresh, accurately cooked fish comes from Dunmore East and an all-time favourite here is roast rack of local lamb (served, perhaps, with a delicious mint hollandaise).
The reception is held in the attractively situated restaurant, overlooking the garden and a river that runs down beside the house, and there are spacious, comfortably furnished reception / lounge areas (with open fires in winter) where guests can mingle before and after the meal.
This wedding venues accommodation is luxurious; all rooms have jacuzzi baths and there is a particularly romantic one that is perfect for honeymooners.
