Cromleach Lodge Country House Hotel & Ciunas Spa
Georgina Campbell
Bordering on romantic Yeats country, in the hills just above Lough Arrow, Christy and Moira Tighe’s hotel enjoys one of the finest views in Ireland and it makes a very special wedding venues for the most discerning of guests. Aside from the stunning location, the Tighe family and their staff have the magic ingredient of genuine hospitality, doing everything possible to ensure guests’ comfort and relaxation - and then there is Moira’s superb cooking, which is renowned throughout Ireland, and beyond.
A very comprehensive wedding planning service is offered here: the Tighes will organise everything including the church (RC or other), liaising with the Registrar, priest or pastor, and arranging cars, photographer/video, music, flowers, the cake - everything that is needed. There are several churches to choose from in the area including a quaint little church in the Arigna mountains, which seats 140 and is available by arrangement, and other larger churches too - and wedding blessings are possible here too.
A typical wedding reception is held in the Diarmaid & Grainne Suite, which is a new addition to the hotel’s every expanding facilities. The function room named after the ill fated lovers from Irish Mythology who are said to be buried together in a cave close to Lough Arrow is an elegant event space. The venue is perfectly proportioned with spectacular views over the valley below and is sumptuously decorated in burgundy and gold. Chandeliers overhead create a unique ambiance in the evening. Break-out rooms are available off the main function room and there is an outdoor terrace leading off from the main function area which is perfect for summer entertaining.
The function food too is a delight to savour. Moira is known for her pride in carefully sourced local ingredients, used in a growing number of specialities which regularly appear on a range of menus - and the bride and groom are sure to have great fun selecting dishes for their set four-course menu without choices (€50), or a five-course dinner (€75) which offers a choice of starters followed by soup, salad or sorbet, then choices of both main course and dessert, plus coffee and (wonderful) petits fours.
Accommodation is in spacious junior suites with an emphasis on comfort rather than fashion, with king-size and single beds, and seating areas overlooking the lough with easy chairs to relax in - a great spot to spend a few days in this beautiful area.

Deirdre, our wedding coordinator is available every Saturday & Sunday afternoon without appointment, for private show arounds.
“We’ve never had a wedding fair at Cromleach. The idea of herding couples around in this way is, in my opinion very impersonal & far from romantic. From my experience most couples at this early stage of planning prefer a more private and personal consultation.
I also appreciate that most couples will want to visit a number of venues and may not have much time available so I am available every Saturday & Sunday afternoon without appointment, to meet couples and give a private show around. These couples are treated to a glass of Champagne or Tea/Coffee & Cromleach cakes.”
“We also offer a show around package which includes early check in to one of our deluxe bedrooms. Unlimited use of Ciúnas Spa thermal areas. A welcome drink & canapés in the De Danann Lounge & full dinner in Moira’s Restaurant. Once you’ve had a nice relaxing evening I then meet you for a private consultation next morning. The total cost is €200 per couple but this is refundable if you go on to book your wedding here.”
