The Greene family’s gracious mansion is surrounded by its own farmland, magnificent wooded grounds, a recently restored trout lake and mature gardens, all carefully managed and well maintained.

Garden lovers will find a stay here especially rewarding; an information leaflet detailing the garden and walks is available to guests, also one on other walks in the locality (there’s also a comprehensive general information directory for guests which is exceptionally well-researched and up to date - a model of its kind). Ballyvolane is a member of the Blackwater Valley Garden Trail and the gardens renowned for their terraced lawns and stunningly beautiful bluebell woods in spring, and also a walled garden - are open by appointment.

The Italianate style of the present house - including a remarkable pillared hall with a baby grand piano and open fire - dates from the mid 19th century when modifications were made to the original house of 1728. This is a very lovely house, elegantly furnished and extremely comfortable, with central heating and big log fires; bedrooms vary according to their position in the house - all are roomy and, like the rest of the house, are furnished with family antiques and

look out over the extensive gardens and grounds.

Ballyvolane has private salmon fishing on 8km of the renowned River Blackwater, with a wide variety of spring and summer beats, and delicious food is another high point here, with modern Irish dinners served in style around a long mahogany table. There is much of interest in the area and this makes a wonderful base for exploring the beautiful Blackwater Valley, with its many gardens and historic sites - including Lismore Castle, which is nearby.

Jeremy and the late Merrie Greene’s son, Justin, and his wife Jenny, now manage Ballyvolane - and Jeremy is still very much involved with the gardens and woodland, which are his great love; Justin has management experience in top hotels and they are committed to ensuring that the standards of hospitality, comfort and food for which this lovely house is renowned will be maintained, making this an excellent choice for a peaceful and very relaxing break.
