Dating back to 1897 and formerly the Great Southern Hotel Mulranny (until 1977, when the much-loved state-owned group was sold and, sadly, broken up), the Mulranny Park Hotel is rightly proud of both its heritage and its superb location overlooking Clew Bay, with “ the Wild Atlantic Way At the Front Door and the Great Western Greenway at the Back Door”.
And to that you can add “The Gourmet Greenway” food trail, showcasing the superb food producers of the Mulranny, Newport, Westport and Achill areas, which can all be explored along the Greenway route.
The hotel has a great reputation for activity breaks and family holidays (kids’ club in summer; swimming pool - the Sea View Apartments make a perfect base), but it’s also a romantic destination, not only for its wonderful location but its history and celebrated guests too. Most famously, John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed here in 1968 - and performed a pre-release performance of ‘Revolution’ for the delighted locals; today’s guests can still enjoy the very room they stayed in, now named The John Lennon Suite.
Under the caring eye of General Manager Dermot Madigan and a terrific staff, it’s a welcoming hotel with a pleasant mix of Victorian ambience and modern amenities, well-appointed rooms - and a strong focus on food. Head Chef, Chamila Mananwatta, is closely involved with the Gourmet Greenway artisan food trail and his commitment to local produce inspires all hotel menus, notably in the elegant Nephin Restaurant, with its stunning views across Clew Bay.
