You can’t beat a real country house for a refreshing short break or to provide a perfect setting for special occasions and this lovely Georgian property has it all, as it’s handy to Belfast (and the M1) yet, set in mature trees, gardens and green fields on the edge of a quiet village, it feels like worlds away.

There’s luxurious accommodation in stylish, individually decorated and thoughtfully appointed rooms (all with beautiful bathrooms, five of which have separate bath and shower), fine reception rooms with log fires - and, best of all perhaps, delicious dinners based mostly on local and organic produce.

There’s a real feeling for the seasons and the cooking style is pleasingly direct, so you get the true character of carefully sourced ingredients - probably including the renowned Himalayan salt chamber 45 day dry-aged beef from Hannan's in nearby Moira. Service is delightful - friendly and professional - and this lovely house should be on everyone’s treat destination list.
