A legend for his authentic, quality-driven street food in Derry since 2013, the internationally-experienced chef and entrepreneur Kevin Pyke developed Pyke'n'Pommes from his original riverside van to today's dual operation - a bricks & mortar restaurant known as '53-55 Strand Road' and Pyke'n'Pommes POD, a quayside double-decker bus called 'Decky' - to local and national acclaim, and even beyond. Decky is in a lovely setting on the banks of the River Foyle, with a little marina nearby. The heated bus has tables, comfortable seating and some outdoor seating, and a converted shipping container kitchen beside it serves a takeaway menu. And also, right next door to Decky, is Moore on The Quay, where fishmonger Brendan Moore champions fish from local suppliers, including the Foyle Fisherman’s Co-op in nearby Greencastle. He proudly displays whatever gems the latest haul has produced, on ice, in the hatch of his converted truck – and it’s very handy for Decky. Kevin was way ahead of the curve with street food and what he’s doing in Derry, with Decky and Strand Road. With its battle cry of 'LOCAL .LOCAL. LOCAL Produce, organic when possible' and excellent cooking, Pykes'n'Pommes lives up to its promise of 'Making our city taste better’. What a man.
