Stitch & Weave, Derry, Co Derry

Stitch & Weave, Derry, Co Londonderry

When it comes to restaurants, they don’t do more historic than the delightful Stitch and Weave. Situated on historic Ebrington Square, right beside the Peace Bridge and with panoramic views of the bridge and the walled city across the River Foyle, it is in a thoughtfully re-purposed listed building with all of the character, charm and atmosphere that comes with the territory – and it’s even next door to the new interactive maritime museum, due to open soon. Brothers David and Shaun McElhone brought a treat of a new dining and socialising destination to Derry when they opened here in spring 2024 - and how appropriate that it should be located in the former catering centre of the old Ebrington military barracks. But it wears its history lightly. The decor, like the name, pays homage to the Maiden City's shirt-making and linen-weaving past and - designed to make the most of every inch as it is not a huge building - it makes a warmly welcoming contemporary setting for enjoying flavoursome local ingredients cooked with a Mediterranean twist. Looked after by experienced General Manager, Jason Foody (formerly of another wonderful historic property, Killeavy Castle near Newry), and happy, knowledgeable staff, everyone loves it. And it's keenly priced too - you will want to return
