Although its blocky 1970s’ architectural style may not be to today’s taste, Ostan Gweedore was built to make the most of the location, and it is hard to imagine a more stunning venue for a wedding - all the spacious public areas, including the aptly named Ocean Restaurant and both the Library (“the most westerly reading room on the Atlantic seaboard”) and Sundowner bars have superb views over the shoreline and Mount Errigal.

And the hotel takes pride in doing weddings well, and offering good value - well-priced menus, based mainly on local produce, especially seafood and Donegal mountain lamb, include a choice of three main course, and two options for starters and desserts without any extra charge.

This wedding venues generosity is also seen in the choices for children (please advise numbers in advance), and the range of complimentary items included in the wedding package - which, unusually, includes chair covers. Most bedrooms have panoramic sea views, and although some may seem a little dated, they are all are comfortable and there are three suites. Ladies in the wedding party will be especially pleased with the hotel’s health and beauty spa, which offers a bridal package.
