Ballycotton

Ballycotton is a village in County Cork, situated about 40km (25 miles) east of Cork city. It is a famous fishing village much favoured by deep sea anglers. The village is set on a rocky-ledge overlooking Ballycotton Bay.  It offers fantastic views over a boat filled harbour to a steep island crowned by a lighthouse. One of the best-known of Irish sea fishing centres; large catches of prime fish and excellent facilities.

Ballycotton at one time it held no less than seven Irish fishing records. There is very good boat fishing for Pollack and Conger, but big Skate that were once pretty common have become scarcer. And it also offers some very good shore fishing.

Off the breakwater you will find conger eels especially at night, plaice, dabs, black sole and dogfish. Codling are taken in winter. Mullet are seen in packs during the summer inside the breakwater. Groundbaiting will help get them feeding. Small pollack, the odd coalfish, and mackerel will fall to spinning tactics.

Boat charter is available, see below.

Species: Conger, Ling, Pollack, Cod, Ray, Blue shark, Wrasse, Whiting, Mackerel,  Gurnard, Garfish, Dogfish, Coalfish
