Danny Minnies Restaurant

The O’Donnell family has run Danny Minnie’s since 1962, and a visit is always a special treat. There’s nothing about the exterior as seen from the road to prepare first-time visitors for the atmosphere of this remarkable restaurant: hidden behind a frontage of overgrown creepers a surprise awaits when, after a warm welcome from Terri O’Donnell, guests are suddenly surrounded by antiques and elegantly appointed candle-lit tables.

This wedding venues got a very picturesque church nearby and wedding blessings are also possible at the restaurant, which has a lovely atmosphere and, although there is no formal wedding planning service offered, the venue will be decorated for you, traditional Irish music can be organised to welcome guests if required and head chef Brian O’Donnell brings a very individual approach to the menu selection.

His cooking is a good match for the surroundings - seafood stars in summer and there’s usually a good choice of meats too, including Donegal mountain lamb, typically served with honey, garlic and rosemary gravy, and Donegal beef (classic Beef Wellington, perhaps). And, under Terri’s direction, friendly and attentive waitresses provide lovely service.

There’s nowhere quite like Danny Minnie’s, an unusual venue offering fine food and great atmosphere.
