This quality Irish meat company now also produce under the Moyallon brand, with well known food pioneer and former owner of Moyallon Foods, Jilly Dougan, still actively involved.
Peter Hannan's remarkable company is one of Ireland's most innovative and renowned for the outstanding quality of its products - and its well-earned reputation is supported by many independent accolades. For example, they won no less than 20 Great Taste Awards in 2012 for a range of meat products, including a 3 star Gold for their guanciale (pork jowl cured with garlic, herbs and red wine) which was then named as one of Britain's top 50 foods - and this unusual product finally emerged as the Supreme Champion for 2012.
Glenarm Shorthorn beef (sirloin, fillet and ribeye) featured among the products singled out for 2 star Golds, while 1 star Gold was achieved by an impressive range of fifteen products including Rare Breed double pork loin chop and a previous winner, Dry-cured Bramley back bacon (sweet cure).
More everyday items that are clearly far from ordinary include the Moyallon burger and the Belfast Banger (Shorthorn beef and leek sausage), you have only to try their products once to realise that they are very special.
They have recently added an ageing chamber for beef at Hannan Meats, which features an amazing 4 tonne wall of Himalayan salt bricks to ensure the meat has the perfect conditions during the ageing process. The standing orders that are in place from many of the top chefs in Ireland and the UK are testament to the exceptional quality of the meat produced and its unprecedented success soon led to an expansion, with a new facility (the largest of its kind in the world) opened in 2013.
The Moyallon range has also earned acclaim for non-meat products, including Spiced Fruit Chutney; Cool Pear and Lime Chutney; Hot Chilli Pickle.
Hannan Meats products go to some of Ireland's best restaurants and hotels, where they are showcasing the high quality of Irish meat on a daily basis. They can be purchased locally at their own wholesale outlet, The Meat Merchant at their headquarters in Moira.
