Kilmore Quay, Co. Wexford

Kilmore Quay is a small rural fishing village situated in the south-east corner of Ireland. It is located 22km from Wexford town and just 19km from the international ferry port at Rosslare.

Kilmore Quay's special characteristics are immediately obvious and its atmosphere and charm make a lasting impression. The row of thatched cottages make a strong visual avenue as the visitor enter the village. It has placid old world tranquillity emphasised by these neat, white-washed houses, most of which have stood undisturbed for more than two centuries.

The harbour has the added attraction of a 55 berth marina which, in addition to the facilities available to the commercial fleet, make the harbour in Kilmore Quay a must for both leisure and commercial boating. The facility of the marina added a new dimension to boating along the south coast of the country, as it provides safe berthage and on-shore facilities for all mariners.

Kilmore Quay has a reputation as an angling centre that goes back to the turn of the century.Species of fish available include bass, cod, shark, tope, ling, mackerel, pollock, skate and whiting. Kilmore Quay also offers the keen diver a fabulous location for diving as the area from Hook Head to Carnsore Point has long been known as the graveyard of a thousand ships.

Kilmore Quay offers to the visitors a "green" approach to its environment as many of the features so prominent in the area are dimensions of historical and natural significance, Ballyteigue Castle, Grange Cemetery, Lifeboat Station, St. Patrick Bridge, Ballyteigue Borrow for its flora and fauna importance, and of course the Saltee Islands which is the most famous bird sanctuary in Ireland.

Kilmore Quay and the area around it has many unspoilt beaches which offer miles of the finest sand dunes in the south-east.
