The Newbridge Siverware Visitor Centre is a must-visit destination for anyone new to the area, whether to browse the extensive range of quality tableware and gifts, visit the fascinating Museum of Style Icons - or enjoy an excellent meal in the bright, stylish surrounds of The Silver Restaurant where photos of famous visitors line the walls.
Operated in admirably hands-on style since 2006 by Ballymaloe-trained Natalie Collins, who takes pride in offering simple, wholesome food with the emphasis on freshness and flavour – as is immediately obvious from the food on display.
Local ingredients are used wherever possible – notably the meats, which are all Irish and supplied by respected local butcher, Doyle’s of Rathcoole – providing a sound foundation for dishes with distinctive homemade style such as homemade beef lasagne with salads, or quiche of the day which may be ham, leek & mushroom (a vegetarian option is also offered and gluten free dishes are highlighted on the menu).
Sandwiches, salads and wraps include home baked ham with mature Cheddar cheese, homemade balsamic and pepper relish & homemade brown bread; or you might have chicken liver pate with apricot chutney or, a vegetarian falafel wrap with roast vegetables & tahini dressing.
Healthy salad and vegetable plates are offered in two sizes – just as well, as delicious desserts include irresistible old favourite like lemon meringue pie and pavlova.
Baking is a strength – there’s a welcoming aroma of freshly baked breads, scones, homemade desserts and cakes on arrival, and afternoon tea served on pretty Newbridge bone china is a speciality.
The drinks list includes wines, and service from well trained and knowledgeable staff is efficient and helpful. All round, a very enjoyable destination – and you’re unlikely to go home empty handed.
