Known locally as 'Day's', this family run hotel on Inishbofin pier has been the first port of call for the many visitors to the island over the years. It overlooks the inner harbour and has in recent years been transformed into a large luxury hotel (a first for the island).
Public areas include a large bright high-roofed entrance lobby and lounge with Spanish tiles and cherrywood finish; it a wonderful John Behan sculpture which was in the old house, representing the legend of the white cow 'Bofin'.
A long bar with polished wooden floors is smart and stylish, with large windows looking onto the sea; the dining room, on two levels, has great views to the sea and mountains.
On the first floor a truly lovely library/lounge with balconies off it is totally constructed in glass, so there is a panoramic view of sea, harbour and mountain.
Bedrooms are luxurious and are restful in pale greens and cream, with bucket chairs, flat screen TV and balconies and all have bath and shower. Audio visual equipment and broadband is available.
Everything about Day's delights visitors, who love the good food that it has always been known for - and, especially, the lovely staff who look after everyone so well.
*Day's pub, next door, is now leased but, in the Guide's experience, it is also excellent.
