Galway City commands a relatively small area geographically, yet it is one of the biggest cities in Ireland in other ways. It has been one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland for many years for a variety of different reasons. Its' compact size plays more than a bit part in its' unrlenting popularity as it is small enough to stroll around window shopping and enjoying the sights and sounds of a city that is positively buzzing. It is known as the cultural capital of Ireland or the City of Tribes and has much to see and do. The town is centred around Eyre Square which has recently been renovated to make it a more pleasant area to spend some time and relax. The city has a great selection of hotels, restaurants and bars to satisfy the hordes of tourists that pass through its' gates each year.

Galway City is also the gateway to Connemara which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful areas in Ireland and a "must see" on any discerning travellers itinerary to Ireland. All of our recommendations below are within the city limits, but you could goGalway Hotels - The Pink Room, The G Hotel a little further out into the countryside or along the coast where there are many different hotels and guesthouses available (Please use our map or search box to the left of the page or the Places to Stay tab at the top of the page to browse through these).

Galway City with its' enduring popular tourist following has not been through as much growth in the area of new build hotels as many other parts of the country as there were many hotels to choose from already - although there are some notable newcomers such as the G Hotel. The hotels that we have selected below are the best in Galway City in our opinion and there is something there to suit everyone style and budget wise.

Galway Hotels that we recommend:

An unimpressive facade gives no indication of the g’s stunning interior: Philip Treacy, given carte blanche to indulge his quirky creativity by owner, Galwayman, Gerry Barrett, has given the western capital a stunning new hotel.

The Ardilaun Hotel has an interesting history - it dates back to about 1840, when it was built as a townhouse for prominent members of Galway society, the Persse family...

The Westwood Hotel   €€€
The Westwood House is well located, on the edge of Galway and convenient to both the city and Connemara; it’s set well back from the road and offers a high standard of accommodation for business and leisure at fairly reasonable prices.

Maldron Hotel Galway    €€
This large new hotel is easy to find (a big plus for business locations) and offers a high standard of accommodation.

Clayton Hotel   €€
Convenient to both Galway city centre and Galway Airport, this relatively new four star hotel is well located for business and leisure guests.

The Twelve Hotel
